You Will Be Buried Here

July 30, 2010

The end of Summer will usher in the release of You Will Be Buried Here.  The fifth release from Ampline in twice as many years marks a stark departure from their solely instrumental beginnings.  Having initially enjoyed certain liberties in regards to song structure by not having to worry about framing music around traditional verses and choruses, the band eventually began to use the subtle presence of vocal snippets to help steer listeners' thoughts.  On You Will Be Buried Here, that 'subtle' approach has been thrown out the window.

They are not shy about tacking the 'concept album' tag on this one.  Seventeen tracks culled from two and a half years of writing and touring explore the interrelation of man, nature, industry and theology.  From mine collapses to the labor movement, from Dos Passos to Tesla, the songs weave a narrative of death, decay, invention and 'progress,' metering the growing gulf between corporal and spiritual.

The band tracked the core of the album live at Candyland, their studio/practice space in Cincinnati, OH throughout 2009.  They recorded, mixed and mastered it themselves with  Montgomery at the helm.  Cameron Cochran (the Sheds, Lions Rampant, Pop Empire) worked the tape machine on a few late nights, also lending his voice and keys to a handful of tracks.  Artist Derek Toebbe painted the cover while Jerry Dirr (Phratry Records/ Knife the Symphony) handled the layout, printing and production. Jason Ward cut the plates for vinyl at Chicago Mastering.

The album will be released on CD & 12" vinyl LP on 9/4/10.  Stay tuned for more details...
